The other week I was given a voucher to try The Hive Bar and Grill at Northcote.
I am sure that you have heard the saying “Never judge a book by it’s cover” Well in this case, never judge a restaurant by their reviews. The Hive has a mixture of good and bad reviews but in my experience this place was fantastic!
When we arrived I was happily surprised at the open restaurant theme where you could sit and eat while taking in the night life as it happens around you. Not long after walking in my husband and I were greeted by a lovely hostess who showed us to our seats. We ordered drinks and both Hubstar and I decided on lemon lime and bitters.
Going over the menu I was met with so many delicious choices. I was so totally leaning towards the linguine marinara or slow cooked lamb shoulder, but in the end I decided on the braised lamb ribs and my hubby kept it simple with a good ol chicken parma.
Our meals came and they looked A-mazing!! My mouth was watering at just the sight of the food, and then I tasted my ribs! Wow, wow, oh golly wow!! This was truly a melt in the mouth moment. These lamb ribs could not of been even more perfect if you tried. I also ordered some potato bread which I used to soak up all my gravy so that this delighted little piggy did not have to lick the plate!
My hubby’s parma had a beautiful golden crumb and was so soft and moist when eating it. The chips were the highlight of his dish as they were coated with pure magic.. Okay, maybe it was chicken salt? But whatever the seasoning was, it was the best chip seasoning ever!
A couple of times through the meal we were asked how our meal was and if we would like anything else. I found the staff to be friendly, chatty and really welcoming. For this I will so be back!
All up for The Hive Bear and Grill I give a wonderful 9/10!
