My Husband and I love Scoopon and could not help but grab the Okami deal when it came out. For $49 for 2 people you got a 2 hour window of all you could eat Japanese food plus Sake, tea or a fizzy drink. Being so cheap we decided to take the whole family!
The restaurant itself was warm and cosy with beautiful Japanese decorations and lovely hostesses. We were shown to our table and given water and cups and the menu to look over. To start with we decided on the sushi platter and the sashimi platter with nigiri.
Everything looked and tasted so fresh and amazing. The flavours were perfect and the sashimi just melted in the mouth. I really could not find fault.
Next we tried Chicken karage with kewpie mayo. Which is basically Asian fried chicken with Japanese mayo. This dish was such a hit that through the night we ordered 3 more rounds of chicken karage. The men especially loved it as it was crispy and melt in the mouth at the same time. Dipping it in the mayo and then soy sauce was a marriage made in heaven!
We then had chicken katsu and fried rice. Umm wow! Whatever the sauce was over the chicken was simply mouth popping amazing! This was my husbands favourite dish as it was full of flavour and cooked to perfection. That with the beautiful fluffy and flavoursome fried rice made for a perfect dish!
Not to skip the finger foods we had seafood tempura and vegetable spring rolls. The seafood tempura also came with tempura vegetables and they were cooked perfectly! A lot of places where there is tempura you can really taste the oil. However this was golden, light, fluffy and full of fresh ingredients minus the oily taste! The downfall was the spring rolls as it tasted like mashed mixed vegetables. But that could just be my palette.
The fried chicken udon was another hit with beautiful noodles, marinated chicken and thinly sliced vegetables. The serving size was quite large and everyone received a good amount of noodles and chicken to satisfy. The chicken was fresh and soft and the dish was another success!
To finish the night off we could not go passed the green tea ice cream. It was fresh, full of beautiful green tea flavour and creamy. The vanilla was for the less adventurous eaters haha! A perfect way to end the night.
All up it was a wonderful night. Lots of laughs, lots of amazing food, great service, great ambiance and all at an amazing price. Normally only $29 pp for al you can eat! We all agreed that we will be back again!
For Okami Japanese at Wantirna I give a solid 9.5/10!
